Linestopping is a process used to isolate a section of “live” pipeline. The pipeline can be operated under normal conditions in most cases when used in conjunction with a temporary bypass. Our Linestop services are a cost effective solution to enable repairs, maintenance, modifications or reconfiguration of existing pipeline systems to be carried out on a planned or emergency basis.
“Options Energy Services Limited engaged with RDS Pipeline Isolation LTD to support our works with Thames Water. RDS undertook on our behalf Hot Tapping on Main sizes 3” – 20”, Pipe Freezing 2” – 8” and Line Stopping of all sizes with or without bypass, the service provided by RDS were second to none and available 24/7, having used other companies providing the same service I would personally recommend calling RDS before calling other companies offering similar services that overcharge and under deliver.”

“Whilst refurbishing a plant room I had the pleasure of meeting up with Rob and RDS who carried out some work for the principle contractor , they worked very professionally and finished their work quickly. I was so impressed with their work when I had some trouble in another part of the Hospital Rob and RDS where the first people I approached to help out. I would recommend RDS to anybody.”

“Thank you for the perfect job your engineer carried out for me at the Liverpool University. You took on the job that a few companies would not, due to the confined space you had to work in. It was carried out without any problems and had the mains water back on in time for students on the Monday morning. We very much appreciate everything you did for us and look forward to our on-going relationship.”

Hottap on 4" cast iron pipe
Hottap on 4" cast iron pipe
We at RDS were called out to do a hottap on this 4″ cast iron pipe. The client needed this as a test point as they weren’t sure on what the contents of the pipe were or if the pipe was dead (empty). After successfully performing the hottap and retaining the coupon (pipe cut out) it turns out the pipe was empty. This then meant that the client could remove the pipe completely out of the ground and continue their building works.
Pipe freeze on 54mm pipe
Pipe freeze on 54mm pipe
We were called by a new client for this job:
They had come across a leak on the original tees that used to be there in one of the blocks of flats that they take care of. We managed to work with them to be able to get there to replace the old leaking tee as soon as possible. Upon arriving on site we quickly addressed the situation and began freezing this 54mm pipe both above and below the affected area to isolate it so that we could begin removing the leaking tee. As you can see in the photo it is as good as new and noone would know we was ever there. There is no residue from the freezing jackets left on the pipe and the whole area was cleaned before we left.
2x8" 54mm linestops
2x8" 54mm linestops
This photo shows 2×8″ linestops. We used them to achieve isolation on an 8″ heating main. Our client had gotten us in to replace 2×8″ butterfly valves due to them becoming faulty and not fully closing. Also due to it being heating we couldn’t achieve isolation through using the freezing process, this is why we went down the linestopping route.
2 linestops were inserted into the pipe and we changed the valves in question within the time window that we were allowed.
